CALIFORNIA DANCE INSTITUTE

Our grant for $17,850 provides costumes for performances, which are an essential part of the program. California Dance Institute is an arts education dance program for low-income children in Los Angeles, both in school and after-school, that teaches life and learning skills through dance and music. Approximately 1,000 children a year will participate in the dance recitals, and the costumes will be in use for many years to come. The current costumes at CDI are 17 years old and unusable. Working toward each dance performance, children learn to develop a standard of excellence through the rigor and joy of dance. Most of these kids have never experienced the professional quality theater production, of which they are now the most integral part. The children experience tremendous pride from the professional quality theatre productions that are put on. Part of the excitement and thrill of the recitals is having a costume and being a part of something special.
