A PLACE CALLED HOME
Our grant for $45,000 provides a passenger van to transport youth to this arts, education and wellness center for young people in South Central Los Angeles. 300-400 youth per year, ages 8 to 24, will be provided with transportation to the center and on field trips including: beach days, camping trips, college tours, museum visits, and more. Safe transportation is a critical service for the youth APCH serves, as reliable and affordable mass transit options in South Central are difficult to access and many families do not have reliable vehicles at home. While some youth are able to safely walk to the center, others have to walk through unsafe neighborhoods or cross gang lines to reach the center. The van will ensure that physical inaccessibility is never a barrier to reaching programs and services in a low-income community that is underserved.
